Building
The Geology Building was completely rennovated as part of campus-wide updating and new construction. We moved out of our building over the Spring 2004 semester, and construction began. We moved back into a new building Summer 2005! Photos of the new building will be coming soon, but we will be busy installing new fixtures and displays for some time...
Here are some photographs taken November 5, 2004, after the building was completed gutted, and after new construction gave the building new form.
The outside of the building has been cleaned, and windows removed and boarded up.
The lower floor has been framed in, and is almost ready for sheetrock.
The auditorium has been completely cleaned and stripped and is ready for new construction.
The high ceiling of the auditorium is even higher now, as the original false ceiling has been removed, and new duct work and electrical wiring run.
We met Jarvin West on the site. Narvin worked on the original construction of the building in 1957, and has stories to tell about the methods of construction, the solid strength of the foundation, and the top notch curing of the concrete.
The upper floor framing is more complete than that of the lower floor, and sheetrock is now being installed in rooms.
Sheetrock goes up rapidly once framing is complete. This is the large room on the second floor, first on your right as you get to the top of the front stairs (on the M.L.K. side).
